Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) has kept a 20% quota in all types of Under Graduate (UG) courses being run by the colleges affiliated to it, for the Class XII passout students of Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). CBSE Class XII Exams concluded in the third week of June. The results of the examinations are awaited. Meanwhile, after the announcement of results of Class XII examinations conducted by State Board, the university announced the admission process for UG courses in the colleges affiliated to it. Parents of most of the students, who have appeared in Class XII examinations conducted by CBSE, approached the universities and requested to postpone the process for admissions to UG courses.

The university found the parents’ grievance genuine. Hence it decided to reserve 20 per cent seats for CBSE Class XII passouts if they wished to get themselves admitted to UG courses offered by colleges affiliated to RTMNU. According to highly placed sources, CBSE has written a letter to University Grants Commission (UGC) requesting it to direct universities to delay the admission process of UG courses till the results of Class XII exams are announced.

When contacted, Dr Subhash Chaudhari, Vice-Chancellor of RTMNU, told ‘The Hitavada’, “ We have not received any such letter from UGC. But we have continued to conduct our admission process of UG courses keeping 20% seats reserved for CBSE Class XII passouts. According to our general observation, less than 10 per cent of CBSE passouts opt for our non-professional courses while some more students go for professional courses. Considering this, whenever CBSE results are out, the successful students can be accommodated in the quota of 20% seats.”
