After heavy rainfall battered the State capital on Saturday night, rains continued to lash the city on Sunday afternoon too. Heavy rainfall that continued for about an hour, onece again exposed the poor drainage system of the city. During the 24 hours, Bhopal received five-and-a-half inches rainfall. This is the heaviest rain so far this season. Lightning fell in many areas. At the same time, due to heavy rains in Silwani, Raisen, a kutcha house collapsed and a person died due to this. At the same time, one person was injured.
A family was rescued by a fire team after water filled a low-lying settlement in Bhopal’s Gandhi Nagar area. This was the condition of half the city. From Shahjahanabad to Karond, Ashoka Garden, Aishbagh, Jehangirabad, Gandhi Nagar, rain water had entered the houses in most of the low-lying areas. People’s night was full of panic and trouble.
According to the Meteorological Department, in the last 24 hours, 5 people died due to lightning in Madhya Pradesh, while 8 people sustained burn injuries.
The Meteorological Department has observed heavy to very heavy rainfall in Neemuch, Mandsaur, Ratlam, Agar, Shajapur, Dewas, Ujjain, Morena, Sheopurkalan and thunderstorms in Bhind, Indore, Khandwa, Khargone, Burhanpur, Dhar, Mandu, Barwani, Alirajpur, Jhabua and Sehore till evening. An alert has been issued for light to moderate rain with flashes.

There was waterlogging everywhere. Fire brigade rescue team rescued a family trapped in the house in Pratap ward of Gandhinagar area. The house built on the banks of the drain was flooded due to the boundary wall of the colony. Four to five people were trapped in the house due to the water filling up to 5 feet around the house. After 2 hours of rescue operation, everyone was safely evacuated.
On the other hand, residents of Azad Nagar remained troubled throughout the night due to water entering the houses. Water entered the houses adjoining it as one-and- half-feet water got accumulated on the closed road leading from the bus stand to the mall. There was a flood like situation in Indra Nagar, Bagh Mufti Sahib, Teela Jamalpura and Vasun-dhara Colony. The residents of Ahuja Colony of Bairagarh Arts and Ward 71 Sunder Nagar Ashoka Garden also got troubled the whole night. Water filled houses in Raisen, one died due to house collapse Heavy rains in Raisen led to waterlogging in most of the colonies. A kutcha house collapsed in village Majrajhir of Bamori police station area of Silvani. In this, one person Chhavidas (45) died, while Rajkumar (27) son Rambabu Adivasi was injured. He has been admitted to the hospital.
