With arrest of two persons from Betul district of Madhya Pradesh (MP), the Nagpur Rural Police on Sunday claimed to have solved the murder mystery of a girl whose body was found near Chargaon in Katol Police Station area on July 4. The prime accused was having an illicit relationship with the girl and she was allegedly blackmailing him for money, police said.
The arrested accused was identified as Punit Sunil Soni (28), a resident of Ward No. 5, Ganesh Colony, Amla, district - Betul, Madhya Pradesh and a juvenile. Punit is married and proprietor of Krishna Jewellers in Betul where the deceased - Muskan Kachewar (19), a resident of Ward No. 10, Amla - was working for the past one year.
Muskan’s body was found near Chargaon village on July 4. Initially, the investigators faced trouble in establishing her identity. A team of Local Crime Branch (LCB) visited Pandhurna, Badchicholi, and Multai areas of Madhya Pradesh with photographs of the girl and also published the news in local newspapers. On Saturday, a resident of Amla phoned the police and gave the name and address of the girl. The cops immediately visited her place in Amla and her parents identified her, according to police.
Acting on information, the police visited Krishna jewellers and rounded up Punit and a worker into custody for questioning. Punit confessed for the murder after grilled by the police. The accused will be produced in the court on Monday.
Under the guidance of SP Vijay Magar, Addl SP Rahul Maknikar, the arrest was made by PI LCB Omprakash Kokate, APIs Rajiv Karmalwar, Jitendra Wairagade and others.
