Firing in air for fun lands four friends behind bars

FOUR friends, including a lawyer, allegedly opened fire in the air just for fun near Balasaheb Thackeray Gorewada International Zoological Park and KT Nagar turning on Katol Road causing panic in the area and prompting Gittikhadan Police to take them into custody.
Cops seized a pistol, three live cartridges, an empty bullet shell collectively worth Rs 26,500 from them and also a Mitsubishi Pajero car (MP-09/CM-7777) worth Rs 10 lakh in which the firearm was found.
The accused have been identified as Alok Arunkumar Shukla (39), a resident of Ashok Nagar, Akola, Deepak Vidyasagar Chaudhary (45), a resident of K T Nagar, Katol Road, Raju Laxman Kadu (46), a resident of Manu Vihar, Hazaripahad, and Kartikeyan Narendra Dashasahastra (31), a resident of Rajat Sankul, Ganeshpeth.
Accused Raju Kadu is a practicing lawyer in the High Court while the other three accused are transporters.
The four friends allegedly had gone for a long drive in Mitsubishi Pajero car on Thursday night. Alok Shukla was carrying his licenced pistol and five rounds with him.
Around 10.30 pm, they stopped near the gate of Balasaheb Thackeray Gorewada International Zoological Park. Shukla took out his pistol and opened fire in the air just for fun. From there, they drove towards Adv Kadu’s house. On KT Nagar turning near Utkarsh Nagar, he again opened fire in the air.
As a result, panic gripped the residents, bystanders and passers-by. Some residents alerted the police immediately. Soon, staff from Gittikhadan Police Station rushed to KT Nagar and collected details about the firing incident from residents.
A police team along with the DB Squad, led by API R B Khandale launched a search for the accused.
Cops found the car parked in front of accused Adv Kadu’s house at Manu Vihar, Hazaripahad. Police personnel surrounded the house and took the four friends into custody and seized the firearm, bullets and the car from them.
Gittikhadan Police registered a case under Sections 336, 34 of the Indian Penal Code, read with Sections 27, 30, 35 of the Indian Arms Act, against Shukla, Chaudhary, Adv Kadu and Dashasahastra. On Friday, the accused persons were released on bail by the court.
