Continuous rains in Nagpur district from the beginning of July, increased the water level of Totladoh dam to 84.24 per cent of its designed storage capacity, which may cause problem in water management in the district in coming days.
Totaldoh dam, which is a major source of water supply and irrigation of Nagpur district, is nearly full in the month of July. However, Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted extended monsoon this year till November. If the monsoon activity in the district remains the same in coming days also then the water level of Totladoh dam maybe close to 100% mark soon. In this situation, the district administration will face tough time in water management.
The administration will have to release water in coming days but it will increase threat of flood in nearby areas of the dam. However, if the administration holds the water then it will be a threat to the dam itself.
The weather department, on Sunday, predicted that the continuous rainfall which started from the beginning of July, take a halt from July 26 onwards till mid August.
IMD also predicted that the monsoon activity will continue in East Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. Continuous rain in East MP will increase the water level in Chaurai dam there. If the irrigation department of MP release the water from Chaurai dam then the water level will definitely increase in Totladoh dam too.
Last year, on this date, Totladoh dam had 60.50 per cent water level which is more than 23% less than this year.
Other dams in Nagpur district like Khindsi, Nand and Kamptee Khairy are also have more water than last year. On Sunday, Kamptee Khairy has 93.80 per cent water stock. Last year on the same date the dam had 68.84 per cent water.
