Picnic turns into tragedy: City youth drowns in Kanhan river at Waki

A picnic of Nagpur city youths turned into a tragedy when one of them drowned in Kanhan river near Waki, on Saturday. The deceased was identified as Vrishabh Dinesh Chandekar (22), a resident of Patankar Chowk, Angulimal Nagar. According to police, a group of seven youngsters went to Waki for a picnic. After roaming in the nearby area, the youngsters started walking on the banks of the Kanhan river. Vrishabh Chandekar and Nayan Ramteke ventured into the water for swimming and started drowning.
 
Their friends tried hard to save them but only Nayan managed to swim back while Vrishabh disappeared in the water. The information was given to Saoner police. Cops rushed to the spot and fished out Vrishabh’s body with the help of local divers. The body was sent to a hospital for post-mortem. A case of accidental death was registered by Saoner police. A resident said, many people have drowned in the river in the past few years. A caution board was also installed on the banks of the river warning people to not venture into the water. However, the visitors continue ignoring the warning, he added.
