13 spillway gates of Bargi Dam opened as water level rises

Water discharge has been started from total 13 spillway gates of Rani Avanti Bai Sagar Pariyojana, Bargi Dam, on August 15. Following the heavy downpour on the upstream of river Narmada, water inflow was increased upto 1.60 lakh cusec which led to increasing level of the reservoir upto 421.40 metres against the peak height of 422.76 metre, on August 5.
Pointing out the heavy inflow, dam authority increased the water discharge of 1.06 lakh cusec to maintain average level of the reservoir.
Executive Engineer of Bargi Dam, Ajay Sure informed that rapidly increasing inflow of water suddenly increased the level of the reservoir upto 421.40 metres. Taking a serious note on rising water level, 13 of the 21 spillway gates of Bargi Dam were opened upto 1.06-metre opening height for water discharging 1.06 cusec from the reservoir. Water discharging may be increased or decreased after reviewing the downpour in catchment areas of river Narmada.
Following the discharge from the reservoir, water level on downstream of the river was increased upto 25-feet. Collectors, Superintendents of Police and other offiicials of Jabalpur, Narsinghpur, Raisen, Hoshangabad, Sihore, Dewas, Harda, Khargone, Khandwa district were informed to ensure implementation of necessary safety measures on thte banks of the river. Besides this, alert sirens were blown on the banks of river at Gwarighat, Lamhetaghat and Bhedaghat in Jabalpur to make the residents aware.
