Water level of the Narmada river has risen above its danger mark and all the banks are submerged due to increasing water discharge from the Bargi Dam, on Wednesday. Looking at the surging water level in the reservoir, water discharge from Bargi Dam was increased through two more spillway gates at 12 noon, on Wednesday.
Executive Engineer of Bargi Dam, Ajay Sure informed that due to increasing water inflow, water discharge from the reservoir has been increased upto 1.48 lakh cusec. Following the incessant rains on upstream of the river, peak water level of the reservoir increased upto 422.25 metres at 8 am on Wednesday, which is just 0.51 metre short from peak level of the reservoir.
Taking prompt action on the situation, two more gates after 13 gates were opened at average opening height of 2.03 metres for water discharge of 4,202 cumec (1.48 lakh cusec).
Till now, total 85,000 cusec water is being released from the reservoir for maintaining its average water level. Following the increased water discharge from Bargi Dam, water level of downstream of the river increased from 16 feet to 28 to 30 feet.
High alert has been declared on the banks of river Narmada and residents have been appealed to avoid visiting the banks of the awollen river in Jabalpur, Narsinghpur, Raisen, Hoshangabad, Sihore, Dewas, Harda, Khargon and Khandwa districts for avoiding any kind of untoward incident.
