Incessant rain, lashing the city since the early morning hours on Sunday, inundated many areas of the city. Almost all big nullahs are flooded, many localities are water-logged and knee-deep water has gushed into houses. Even market places are water-logged. Rain water also entered shops and houses. People living in mud-made houses had to face hell-like conditions as water gushed into their dwellings and caused huge losses.
Main squares, roads and colonies got water-logged. Drains and nullahs overflowed inundated residential and market areas. The heavy rainfall has kept JMC employees on their toes. The flood control room of JMC received plethora of complaints of water-logging, house collapse and uprooting of trees from several areas of the city.
As was predicted, the entire district has been receiving heavy rainfall. Since early morning, moderate and heavy showers have been lashing the city. As per the Meteorological Department, the city has received 122 mm, nearly 5 inches of rainfall which has added to the total rainfall figure to 979 mm.
People, on Sunday, faced a tough time as many areas were water-logged and water gushed into houses in low-lying areas. The flood-like situation has exposed the reality of pre-monsoon cleaning drive conducted by the JMC.
The areas which faced water-logging were Durga Nagar, New Ram Nagar, Kanchanpur, Manmohan Nagar, Railway fourth bridge, Bhookamp colony, Civic Center, Sanjeevani Nagar, Milk Scheme Adhartal, Chandan Colony Garha, Sai Sadan Napier Town, Panni Mohalla, Chetan City, Vijay Nagar, Saraswati Colony, Basa Gaon and many others.
The maximum temperature on Sunday was recorded 24.7 degree Celsius while minimum was 22.2 degree Celsius. The relative humidity on Sunday morning was recorded to 96 per cent while in evening it was 96 per cent. This time last year, the maximum temperature of the day was 30.8 degree Celsius while minimum temperature was 24.0 degree Celsius. The total rainfall was 468.6 mm.
Meanwhile, the weatherman informed that similar condition would continue and the city would receive more rainfall in the next 24 hours.
