Due to heavy rains, 50 dams are overflowing in the State, along with this the Bhopal-Nagpur National Highway has also been closed due to floods. It rained once again on Tuesday afternoon in Bhopal. The Meteorological Department says that now there can be some relief.
The department has issued an alert of torrential rain across the State in the next 24 hours. However, now Madhya Pradesh is out of red alert. Light rain may occur in Bhopal, Gwalior, Narmadapuram, Chambal, Shahdol, Rewa, Jabalpur, Sagar and Ujjain divisions. Yellow alert has been issued for heavy rain in Dhar, Alirajpur, Jhabua, Ratlam Dewas districts. More relief is likely from Wednesday. A spell of light rain is expected in the last days of August. After this, one or two rounds of rain may come in September also. The departure of monsoon is possible only after September 30.
Madhya Pradesh recorded the highest rainfall in the country in 24 hours. 449 per cent more rainfall was recorded in the State. An average of 0.41 inches of water fell during this period, while 2.33 inches of rainfall was recorded. Many big and small rivers including Narmada, Betwa, Shipra, Chambal, Parvati are moving towards the danger mark in the state. About 50 dams have overflowed.
The period of heavy rain which started late on Sunday night continued till late Monday night. The city had received up to 190 millimetres (mm) of rainfall from Sunday to Monday morning at 8:30, whereas during the last twenty four hours till 8:30 am on Tuesday, 182.4 mm of rainfall was recorded. In this way, 372.4 mm (14.89 inches) of rain was recorded in the last 48 hours.
According to meteorologists, the deep depression is progressing after entering the State. On Monday morning, this weather system was passing 60 km north of Sagar in the form of depression, which reached the northern parts of the state by evening. By night it entered the border of Rajasthan. After this the rain has stopped since Tuesday morning.
The rain that started on Sunday night in Bhopal turned into heavy rain till morning. Stormy winds started blowing with rain in the morning and within a short time the speed of the winds reached 60 kilometres per hour. Due to this, the roads were closed due to falling of trees in many places, while the lower settlements were flooded.
Reason behind the strong winds: Former senior Meteorologist of the Meteorological Department, Ajay Shukla said that there is a big difference between the internal and external pressure of the depression passing through MP. When the pressure gradient or pressure gradient is high in the centre and outskirts of a weather system, the wind speed is due to its effect. In simple words, due to the large gap, the winds are pulled very rapidly from high pressure to low pressure, due to which strong winds are formed.
Since there is also more moisture, the combination of rain with strong winds becomes more harmful.
Never recorded this much rainfall in last 10 years: By the evening of August 22, the total monsoon rainfall has crossed 1500 mm, whereas in the last 10 years, the total monsoon rainfall has never crossed this level, while the whole month of September is still left, so many records may break.
