Almost all the water bodies are over-flowing due to incessant rains in the district while five gates of Rani Avanti Bai Sagar Pariyojana, Bargi Dam have been opened for maintaining average water level in the reservoir.
Following the heavy downpour on the upstream of river Narmada, water inflow increased upto 3855 cumec which led to increasing level of the reservoir upto 421.40 metres against the peak height of 422.76 metre, at 10 am on August 23.
Pointing out the heavy inflow, the dam authority restarted water discharge of 564 cumec to maintain average level of the reservoir.
Executive Engineer of Bargi Dam, Ajay Sure informed that rapidly increasing inflow of water suddenly raised the level of the reservoir upto 421.40 metres. Taking a serious note on rising water level, five of the 21 spillway gates of Bargi Dam were opened upto 0.50-metre opening height for discharge of 564 cumec water from the reservoir. Water discharge may be increased or decreased after reviewing the rainfall in catchment areas of river Narmada.
High alert has been declared on downstream of the river following the water discharge from the reservoir and district administrations of Jabalpur, Narsinghpur, Raisen, Hoshangabad, Sihore, Dewas, Harda, Khargon, Khandwa district were informed for ensuring the implementation of necessary safety measures at banks of the river.
Besides this, sirens were blown on the banks of river at Gwarighat, Lamhetaghat and Bhedaghat in Jabalpur to alert the residents.
Similarly, water bodies include Sangram Sagar, Hanumantal, Khandari water reservoir and others are being over-flown. Despite the declaration of high alert for maintaining distance from banks of rivers and water bodies, a large numbers of persons are risking their lives to take a glimpse of water overflow from water bodies and rivers.
