Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) Vice-Chancellor (V-C) Dr Subhash Chaudhary has put the decision of 20 per cent hike in admission fees charged by colleges, on hold. Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha members, under the leadership of Shivani Dani, State General Secretary and Senate Member stormed the hall of Jamnalal Bajaj Bhavan of the University where a meeting of Management Council was underway. The demanded the varsity to revoke its fee-hike decision. Due to protest on the decision, V-C told the BJYM members that he has been putting the decision on hold.
Responding to the strong demand by colleges to raise the admission fees which was not increased since long, RTMNU had decided to hike the fees. Accordingly, following due procedure, the university had decided to hike the fees by 20 per cent. Since the decision, the students’ organisations kept visiting the university officials demanding withdrawal of the fee-hike decision. The organisations claimed that during pandemic, several students lost their parents while some parents lost jobs. To add to their woes, several others suffered heavy losses due to wet drought. Considering all these aspects, students are demanding no fee hike. Shivani Dani alleged that the decision of fee hike was unjust as the varsity did not take every component into confidence.
“COVID-19 situation still has not improved. Entire East Vidarbha is suffering from wet drought. Against that backdrop the hike in fees was the biggest punishment to students as well as their parents. We sought proper permission for meeting Vice-Chancellor and Pro-Vice-Chancellor but both denied. Finally, we had to barged into the meeting hall and force officials to fulfill our demands in the interest of students,” pointed out Dani.
Apart from Dani, BJYM State Secretary Kalyan Deshpande, Deva Dehankar, Sachin Karare, Badal Raut, Sunny Raut, Sanket Kukde, Gaurav Harde, Subhash Khemani, Ashish Mohite, Shivam Pandharipande, Prashant Baghel, Sahil Goswami, Pranit Pochampalliwar, Kaustubh Baitule and others also were present.
