NAGPUR district girls moved into the semi-finals of the Inter-District Women’s Football Championship after they won the protest over Buldana on Wednesday.
Despite losing the match 3-1 via tie-breaker at Palghar, Nagpur’s protest, against Buldana who fielded outstation players for the quarter-final match, was upheld.
Nagpur and Buldana were locked at 1-1 at the end of the regulation time and the match was decided via tie-breaker.
In the tie-breaker, Nagpur lost 1-3 but the team management immediately lodged a protest against Buldana claiming that they have fielded players who were not from their district.
“We protested against six players from Buldana who were from outside their district. The protest committee checked the papers and found our protest to be true. It was proved that the players were either from other states or from other districts,” stated NDFA Secretary Iqbal Kashmiri. Nagpur will now play the semi-finals against formidable Mumbai, who thrashed Dhule 10-0 in the other quarter-finals, on Friday.
