RTMNU to celebrate 100th Foundation Day today

Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) (erstwhile Nagpur University) is completing 100 years of its existence. If one takes a look at the glorious history of RTMNU, one will be amazed and feel proud about the varsity. Every organisation that runs for such a long time, obviously faces some ups and downs, so did this university. At the same time, it remained witness to several proud moments. One of those moments is, confering honorary Doctor of Literature (D.Litt), Doctor of Science (D.Sc) and Doctor of Law (LLD) upon prominent personalities like ‘Iron Man of India’ Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Swatantryaveer Vinayak Damodar Sawarkar, first Prime Minister of India Pt Jawaharlal Nehru, freedom fighter Govind Ballabh Pant, first Indian to be the President of UN General Assembly Vijaya Laxmi Pandit, last Governor General of India C Rajgopalachari, former Vice President of India M Hidaytullah, doyen of film industry V Shantaram, former head of state of Tibet Dalai Lama, noted social worker Baba Amte, former Prime Minister of India Indira Gandhi; Justice Sharad Bobde, retired Chief Justice of India. To celebrate this glorious journey of 100 years, RTMNU has organised a grand event on Thursday at 10.30 am at Kavivarya Suresh Bhat Hall, Reshimbag. Chancellor of Universities in Maharashtra Bhagat Singh Koshyari will preside over the function. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari will be chief guest. Padma Vibhushan Dr Anil Kakodkar, Chancellor of Homi Bhabha National Institute will be special guest. Dr Subhash Chaudhari, Vice Chancellor; Dr Sanjay Dudhe, Pro-Vice Chancellor will remain present.
Every year on its Foundation Day, RTMNU confers Jeevan Sadhana Puraskar upon a prominent personality. This year noted industrialist and social worker Purushottam Agrawal will be honoured with the award.
After the main programme, a cultural programme is planned by the university. Bharat Natyam, presentation of the history of university and a drama ‘Jai Bola Patni Ki’ will be presented RTMNU will celebrate centenary year between August 4, 2022 and August 4, 2023. It will celebrate post-centenary year from August 4, 2023 to August 4, 2024.
Dr Subhash Chaudhary, Vice-Chancellor said, “University has decided to hold certain programmes and complete projects as a part of centenary celebrations. It will undertake socio economic development of the region under the mission ‘Reaching the unreached’, it has planned to construct a multi-sports complex, to construct an archeology museum of the department of Ancient History, Culture and Archeology. University has also decided to create Tribal Skill Development Centre, to set up Technology and Energy Park.”
