A YOUTH was swept away in the swollen Nag river a few meters from Dhantoli Railway bridge near Mokshadham in Imambada area on Monday.
Seven teams of the Fire & Emergency Services Department of Nagpur Municipal Corporation launched a search operation to trace Shubham Babarao Hatmode (28), a resident of Jattarodi No 2, for about 15 kilometres along the river. A salesman at a Sitabuldi-based ready made garments’ shop, Shubham and Anshul Yadav (12) were returning to Jattarodi on a motorbike from Dhantoli.
A few meters from Dhantoli bridge, Shubham he went near the river to attend nature’s call. Suddenly, he lost balance and fell into the river and was swept away. Anshul shouted for help. People gathered near the spot. Staff from Imambada Police Station also arrived. The news about the incident spread like a jungle fire at Jattarodi locality in Imambada area. Shubham’s brother Suraj and mother, who were in a state of shock, also arrived with their neighbours. His mother was inconsolable.
As many as seven rescue teams from Civil Lines, Sakkardara, Lakadganj, Ganjipeth, Cotton Market arrived and started a search operation.
The teams laid nets at several points, including the bridge near Jagnade Chowk, to trap Shubham.
The rescue teams also visited Kotwali, Pawangaon, Dhargaon, Bharatwada, Punapur, Bhandara Road up to Jabalpur Highway but Shubham was untraceable till late evening. Similarly, Rambhau Kotrange (50) was swept away while bathing in Vena river in Hingna-Gumgaon area around 5 pm on Monday. Till late evening, he was untraceable.
