INCUMBENT Maharashtra Badminton Association (MBA) President Arun Lakhani wants one more term as boss of the State body. The body that comprises 35 district units goes to poll next Sunday.
Lakhani has filed his nomination papers for the top post. It has been reliably learnt that former international player Pradeep Gandhe is also in the fray for the same post. Last date of withdrawal is September 19.
When asked if there was any chance of a unanimous finish to the process as it was the last time, Lakhani said, “Anything is possible before withdrawal of the nominations.”
After the first ever international badminton tournament in Nagpur, came to an end on Sunday, Lakhani shared his vision for an overall improvement of the sport in the state. He plans to strengthen the districts by making provisions/sponsorships of at least Rs 1-2 lakh per annum so that they can hold district-level tournaments.
“My intention is always to make MBA reach new heights and promote young talents. I want to increase the income of MBA through various branding activities involving players and clubs and new tournaments. The additional income will enable us to keep increasing the prize money over time. I would also like to revive the MBL/club league for Maharashtra,” said Lakhani.
