After the Rajasthan row, in a twist to the upcoming Congress president elections Madhya Pradesh former Chief Minister Digvijay Singh took the nomination form on Thursday. He told the media that he has come to collect his nomination form and will probably file his nomination form tomorrow (Friday). Earlier, Leader of Opposition and former minister of Madhya Pradesh Dr Govind Singh told ‘The Hitavada’, “it is not sure that whether I will be able to go to Delhi or not as I have to attend some programmes at Gwalior. Some of our MLAs and office-bearers have proceeded for Delhi.” On Digvijay Singh, Govind Singh said that it would be a good decision to become the Congress president. Congress will get the benefit of his experience.”
Along with Dr Govind Singh, MLA and former minister Jitu Patwari, Arif Masood, Sachin Yadav, P C Sharma and other MLAs are likely to go to Delhi.
But our sources confirmed that Leader of Opposition will reach Delhi and o become a proponent of Digvijay Singh. Along with Dr Govind Singh, MLA and former minister Jitu Patwari, Arif Masood, Sachin Yadav, P C Sharma and other MLAs have already started for Delhi. Ten MLAs from Madhya Pradesh were on the way to the national capital till the filing of this report. The MLAs will reach Delhi likely by Thursday evening.
Till now Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot and senior party leader Shashi Tharoor were considered two prominent candidates for the post. However, an open rebellion by Gehlot loyalists over a possible leadership change in the state clouded his chances of running for the presidency. By Thursday evening Gehlot opted out of the race.
‘The Hitavada’, asked some the veteran Congress leaders in the state who say that there will be little possibility that Gehlot and Singh will fight against each other and at last Gehlot has kept himself away from the presidency post’s election. ‘The Hitavada’ has also tried to talk to the leaders, believed to belong to Kamal Nath camp, but they politely said “to wait till Friday for their comment”.
