Pawan Khera, Chairman of Media and Publicity in the Communications Department of the All India Congress Committee (AICC), expressed serious concerns about the potential implications for Chhattisgarh if voters opt for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in upcoming Assembly polls. Addressing a press conference at the state Congress party office in Rajiv Bhawan Pawan Khera unveiled a striking poster that conveys a stark message: “Button Kamal Par Dabega To VV Pad Se Adani Niklega” (If you press the lotus button, Adani will emerge from the voting machine). The poster highlights the fears that natural resources such as bauxite, iron ore, cement companies, power plants, and Hira Khadan of Devbhog might be transferred to the Adani Group if the BJP secures power in the State.

In a detailed explanation of the Congress party’s stance, Khera emphasised that a vote for the BJP could lead to a significant shift in control of Chhattisgarh’s resources. He urged voters to consider the consequences of their choice carefully. When asked about the potential outcomes of voting for the Congress in the assembly polls, Pawan Khera asserted that the relief would come to the people of Chhattisgarh if they once again place their trust in the Congress party. The poster released by the Congress party enumerates 22 points outlining their concerns about a potential BJP victory, especially regarding the Adani Group. Khera also highlighted the welfare schemes implemented by the Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel-led Congress government, which have benefitted various sections of the society.

Responding to questions regarding the Congress’ poll promise to ban the sale of liquor, Khera clarified that while the Congress government had closed 100 liquor shops during its five-year rule, it did not intend to abruptly ban liquor sales across the State, drawing a comparison to the Prime Minister’s announcement of demonetisation. The press conference was attended by Political Advisor to Chief Minister Vinod Verma, Chairman of the Communication Department of Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee Sushil Anand Shukla, AICC Media Coordinator Radhika Khera, Pooja Tripathi, R P Singh, and other party leaders.
