The Police Commissionerate is taking traffic management to a new level once again as a plan is being chalked out to deploy drone cameras at major junctions to manage the city’s notorious traffic in the festive season. Policemen deployed at critical junctions, busy markets and commercial areas could not be able to see congestion beyond a point and will not know what is causing the block during peak hours. This is where drones come in and spot bottlenecks to help the police ease traffic flow.
The drone camera feeds are connected to the traffic control room and city surveillance control room from where police teams would monitor the situation. Traffic police personnel can also access the feeds live of drone cameras on their mobile phones to monitor and manage the traffic. In the first phase, this arrangement will be made at Board Office Square, 10 No Market and New Market where seeing the situation of congestion, traffic staff can be sent immediately.
With this, the cause of traffic jam will be known quickly. Police officers will also be able to see its feed on their traffic mobile phones and issue instructions, if necessary.
To improve the system, the office is currently taking the help of Police Special Traffic Squad. Through this, those who violate traffic rules and cause jams can also be identified. The scheme was earlier started two years ago. Bhopal traffic police had taken the help of drones to run the traffic system smoothly in the State capital, but it was not effective. In this scheme, with the help of drones, it was found out where in the city jam-like situations were occurring. This plan of Bhopal Traffic Police was not successful but now it is being implemented afresh to tackle traffic management as well as monitoring security arrangements and maintaining law and order situation during the Model Code of Conduct.
