AVINASH Sable became the first Indian man to win gold medal in
3000m steeplechase at the Asian Games while shot-putter
Tajinderpal Singh Toor defended his title with an amazing final
throw to beat back the challenge from his Saudi Arabian rival here
on Sunday. Sable, the 29-year-old national record holder, earned
India its first gold medal in athletics, completing the race in 8:19.50
seconds. Sable rewrote the previous Asian Games record of 8:22.79
held in the name of Iran’s Hossein Keyhani set at the 2018 Jakarta the Games.SudhaSinghhadwon

up with a mighty throw of

metres. Toor, however, could
not break his own Asian
Games record of 20.75m set
in 2018 Jakarta. But the 28-
year-old’s final throw was way
too good for his Saudirival to
overhaulinhis final attempt.
It’s Gold for Toor in shot put Men trap-shoot Gold Silver for women

THE Indian triumvirate of Prithviraj Tondaiman, Kynan Chenai,
and Zoravar Singh Sandhu won gold medal in men’s trap shooting at the Asian Games here on Sunday.
Just before that, the trio of Manisha Keer, Preeti Rajak and
Rajeshwari Kumari claimed silver medal in the women’s trap team
event, adding to the Indian shooting contingent’s best-ever show
at the Games.
The Indian men combined to shoot 361 in the qualifications
and finish ahead of silver medallists Khaled Almudhaf, Talal
Alrashidi and Abdulrahman Alfaihan (359) and host nation China’s
Yuhao Guo, Ying Qi and Yuhao Wang (354), who settled for bronze. Shooting last,
Alrashidi tried his best and
scored24pointsbutthatwas
not enough to surpass the
Indian total.
Meanwhile, the Indian
women’s team totaled 337 to
take home the silver medal
behind China’s Qingnian Li,
CuicuiWuandXinqiuZhang,
who combined to shoot a
worldandgamesrecordscore
of 357 to finish on top of the
podium.Kazakhstan’sMariya
Dmitriyenko, Aizhan
