AS MUCH as 59.15 per cent of the average soyabean production in Nagpur district stands affected adversely due to fluctuations in rainfall and pest attack and disease. Bhiwapur is the worst affected tehsil, while Ramtek tehsil has suffered the lowest damage, as per the circle-wise survey report of the Agriculture Department. Considering the damage, Dr Vipin Itankar, District Collector and Chairman of District-Level Joint Committee, has directed the Divisional Manager of ICICI General Insurance Company, to release 25 per cent of the compensation as advanced amount to the affected farmers who had subscribed to crop insurance scheme. Dr Itankar has issued a notification in this regard on September 26, and has asked the insurance company to release the 25 per cent advance amount to the farmers concerned within a month since the date of issue of the notification.

 

As per the circle-wise survey report of the Agriculture Department, Bhiwapur tehsil has suffered the maximum damage with likely decline of 68.41 per cent of the average Soyabean crop production. It is followed by Kalmeshwar tehsil with 65.54 per cent damage, Kuhi with 63.85 per cent damage, Nagpur Rural with 63.81 per cent, Umred with 61.32 per cent, Narkhed with 61.03 per cent, Kamptee with 60.23 per cent damage. Saoner, Katol, Hingna, Mouda, and Parseoni tehsils have reported more than 53 per cent damage to soyabean production. Ramtek is the only tehsil that has suffered the least damage of 23.21 per cent. The damage has been calculated as percentage of average crop production in past seven years. Among the villages, Malewada in Bhiwapur tehsil has reported likely soyabean production of 465 kg/hectare as against sevenyear average of 1,548 kg/hectare.

 

Thus, 70 per cent drop in average production of soyabean is likely in Malewada. Godhani village in Nagpur Rural tehsil is expecting soyabean production to be 315 kg/hectare as against seven-year average of 1,033 kg/hectare, thus indicating likely loss of 69.51 per cent of crop due to midseason adversity. Bhiwapur, Jawali, Nand in Bhiwapur tehsil are expecting decline of 69 per cent, 68.02 per cent, and 68 per cent in production. Mohpa village in Kalmeshwar tehsil may witness 68.57 per cent drop in soyabean production.
