In accordance with the recommendation of the committee headed by Justice Sandeep Shinde (Retd), the district administration has commenced a drive to find out Kunbi-Maratha, Maratha-Kunbi caste records in Nagpur district in four days. Dr Vipin Itankar, District Collector, reviewed the administration’s preparedness in this regard in a meeting held at Chhatrapati Sabhagruha in Collectorate premises here. He directed the officers of various agencies concerned to follow the directives of the State Government within the given time limit.
 
Heads of various departments such as Revenue, State Excise, Prison Administration, Police, Railway Police, District Registrar and Collector of Stamps, Land Records, Zilla Sainik Welfare Office, District Waqf Officer, Nagpur Municipal Corporation, municipal administration, Army Recruitment Office attended the meeting. All the Sub-Divisional Officers, Tehsildars, Block Development Officers, Chief Officers of municipal bodies attended the meeting online. Dr Itankar said that all the officers should check Khasra sheet, inspection sheet, tenancy register, citizens’ register, demand register, educational records, birth and death records, agreements, contract records, lease deed, service book, ex-servicemen records, records compiled at the time of recruitment in the Army etc. He also guided the officers on how to carry out classification in this regard, as part of the exercise.
 
The drive to verify records including family records, Nizam-era documents, educational records, revenue records is in progress as part of the process to issue Maratha-Kunbi, Kunbi-Maratha caste certificate. The process has been initiated after the scope of the committee formed under the chairmanship of retired judge, to issue certificates of Maratha-Kunbi, Kunbi-Maratha caste to eligible persons after verification, has been extended across the State.
