17 fire-related incidents rock city on Diwali night

Even as citizens were busy with bursting of firecrackers and enjoying the Diwali festivity, for the firemen it was a busy time as they had to rush to 17 spots across the city to respond to the calls from desperate citizens. Fortunately, there was no major loss of property, nor was anyone hurt in the fire cases, thereby ensuring that Diwali celebrations in city were joyous. As soon as the information about any incident was received, teams from different fire stations of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) promptly carried out rescue operations and a major calamity was averted. Chief Fire Officer B P Chandankhede was at the desk monitoring the response of the force and ready to step-in, if needed. All the fire incidents happened during night, so perhaps involvement of firecrackers in triggering the fire cannot be ruled out. According to the incidents reported to the control room of the NMC, on receiving the information about the house fire near Ganeshpeth Sakhre Guruji School under the Cotton Market Fire Station, the local team immediately carried out rescue operations and brought the fire under control. In this incident, a loss of approximately Rs one lakh was incurred. Due to the promptness of the team, around Rs 10 lakh worth of property was saved from the blaze.
 
The Trimurti Nagar team saved Rs 25,000 worth of property by extinguishing the garbage fire in Mamta Housing Society in Sonegaon. Had it spread, then public property could have been gutted. A house caught fire at Anaj Bazar, Itwari, in front of Old Bus Stand at Lakadganj Chowki No 10 under Lakadganj Fire Station. The fire fighters quickly extinguished the fire and saved about Rs 50 lakhs worth of property while damage is estimated at Rs 25,000. For the Lakadganj Fire Station also had to rushed to the spot after receiving the information that fire broke out in Zenda Chowk, near Kendriya Vidyalay School due to unknown reasons. The team brought the fire under control in time. In this incident, a loss of approximately Rs 90,000 was incurred, while the promptness of the team prevented a loss of around Rs five lakh.
 
Sakkardara team reached the spot on receiving information about fire in Jawahar Vidyalay Garage at Nandanvan, Hasanbagh. The team extinguished the fire and saved about Rs 20 lakhs of damage. Approximately Rs 1,50,000 property were lost in this incident. The Lakadganj station team was again in action as they extinguished a fire at Kacchi Visa Bhawan and prevented a loss of around Rs 20 lakh rupees. The loss is pegged at Rs 15,000. A team of Ganjipeth station rushed to a house at Dakshinamurty Square where fire had broken out. The fire was not that big and was immediately doused. For the residents of NIT Complex, Hill Road, fire had broken out in a fifth floor apartment. Team from Trimurti Nagar station team carried out rescue operations to prevent the fire from spreading in the building. A major loss could be avoided in this incident. Approximately loss was pegged at Rs 25,000. A fire broke out at a house in Hanuman Nagar, near Chaukoni Udyan area under Sakkardara fire station. The fire brigade extinguished the fire on time and saved a loss of around Rs 15,000. Besides Bhole Petrol Pump near MHADA Complex, Vaishali Nagar ground, Yellow River Area, Hari Nagar Manewada Chowk, Futala Lake Vayusena Nagar, Narayanpuri Central Jail Opposite Room, Subhash Nagar next to Shitala Mata Mandir, Shankar Nagar Dandige Layout garbage or trees caught fire and were extinguished by various fire fighting teams.
