The Bhopal Police and officials of flying squad seized unaccounted cash and jewellery worth over Rs 13 lakh on Wednesday. The Kohefiza Police personnel had intercepted a two-wheeler near SBI Square at Sultania road on the basis of a tip off about the money. The two accused were carrying over Rs 10,74,300 in a bag. They were riding a two-wheeler to dodge the police. SHO Brijendra Maraskole said that the accused Prakash Sadana (44) and Daulatram Parwani (53), were riding a scooter towards the Peer Gate area with a bag when they were signaled to stop near SBI Square.
We recovered the cash from their bag and quizzed them separately, said the cop. SHO Maraskole said that they failed to give any explanation for carrying such a huge amount of cash in a bag, he said. The officials quizzed them separately and after failing to get any document for the cash, they informed the Income Tax (I-T) Department about the seizure, later. Besides, the Kotwali police seized cash and jewellery worth over Rs 2.50 lakh on Wednesday. Police team held a man Shalu Soni near Chintaman Square the day. He was carrying cash, ornaments of gold and silver and a few idols all total worth over Rs 2.50 lakh, said police.
Police said they seized these items after he failed to provide documents for the ornaments and cash. The police have set-up several check points across the city to prevent flow of illegal cash or liquor or any such item that may be used to lure voters. Notably, in two days the police have seized cash and jewellery from different locations and the persons carrying the money were riding two-wheelers.
