MOHNISH Meshram caused a huge upset by defeating International Carrom Federation champion Irshad Ahmed in final to clinch crown in the Super 36 Carrom Tournament that concluded at MIA Centre for Sports and Recreation, MIDC on Tuesday. The event was organised by Vidarbha Carrom Association. Meshram recorded straight games 25-18, 25-16 win over Irshad in the summit clash. In the semi-finals, Meshram defeated Gurucharan Tambe 25-13, 25-0 while Irshad beat Nitin Meshram 25-10, 25-9. Tambe, Nitin, Mohd Amin, Rajat Kotangale, Sahil Samudre and Ishant Sakhare took the third to eighth spots in that order.

 

Girish Vyas, patron of All India Carrom Federation and former MLC, was chief guest of the prize distribution function. Shekhar Patil, Deputy Director Sports; Naval Meshram, Divisional Manager LIC and former national player; Zulfikar Bhutto, Vinod Chaturvedi were among those present on the occasion. The top eight players were rewarded with cash prizes. Mukund Nagpurkar was chef referee of the tournament while Iqbal Mohammed took care of the technical aspect.
