IIIT, Bhopal’s new bldg in 50 acres of land in Ratibad

Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), Bhopal, is finally set to get its own building in Ratibad area after six years of establishment. The national institute’s building will be spread over 50 acre of area with various facilities like hi-tech laboratory, parking, library, sports ground, etc. It would take around three years to construct the building. The institute was established about six years back. At present institute is being run in 22 rooms of New Teaching Block, MANIT. There are only three laboratories established in the institute while number of students are 950. Students are using laboratory of MANIT temporarily.
 
Earlier, IIIT was being assigned the plot in RGPV campus near bypass road. As bypass road was going in midway of the land, only 36 acres of land was of use. Therefore, officials did not accept the land and then proposal was to set up the building in BHEL area. IIIT is a national level institute. The institute placement officer Ajay Srivastav said that at present students are busy in campus selection. Students of the institute have got offer from Amazon for Rs 1.20 crores. He further informed that in year 2021, out of 90 eligible candidates, 78 were placed in good company. Average salary package was offered as 10 lakh and highest was 50 lakh.
 
In year 2022, out of 125 candidates, 118 were placed. In year 2023, out of 136, 135 candidates were placed and average salary package was Rs 14 lakh and highest was Rs 85 lakh. At present, institute is facing many issues like uncertainty of building, infrastructure, overall growth, limited resources, etc. Professor Ashutosh Kumar Singh, Director IIIT said that land is proposed in Ratibad for the building and if all goes well, construction will begin soon. He said that it would take two to three years to complete the construction work.
