Textile Policy focusing on sustainability, growth: Virendra Singh

Textile Secretary, Government of Maharashtra Virendra Singh, urged everyone to join hands to unlock the huge potential the textile industry offers. The State Government is focusing on implementing a sustainable Textile Policy for the holistic growth and development of the textile sector. The policy is primarily focusing on sustainability, circularity, recycling, inclusive growth, technical textiles, R&D and upgradation of machinery. Virendra Singh was speaking at the ‘Textile & Fashion Track’ held under the 10th Global Nagpur Summit organised by Nagpur First Foundation at Chitnavis Centre, Civil Lines on Sunday. The keynote speaker, Singh mentioned that the Textile Policy was constantly being upgraded to bring out the potential of India’s vibrant textile sector. India is poised to lead the world in textile industry. Therefore, with a focus on innovation and sustainability the Textile Policy aims to propel India to the forefront of the international textile market.
 
The Textile Policy evolves around sustainability which included uplifting weaker sections of society, taking care of women and women empowerment, local employment generation, recycling, improving produce, environment sustainability, develop and improve local fibre etc. “We have to find a better world for the future generation as we are responsible for the actions we take today,” he added. Apart from this, Hemant Bal, Centre Head, Indorama Synthetics Ltd gave a presentation on ‘Innovation in Synthetic Fibre & Future’. Also, Tushar Garg, Raymonds, India gave a presentation on ‘Success Story – Raymond Yavatmal’, Ashwini Nigam, Project Head, Wipro PARI spoke on ‘Automations in textile industry’, Sanjay Arora, Wazir Advisors Pvt. Ltd. New Delhi talked on ‘Future investments in textile sector’ and Vijay Yadav, Textile Sector Skill Council, New Delhi gave presentation on ‘Skill Development in Textile Sector’.
 
A panel discussion was also conducted on the topic ‘Enabling sustainability and innovation in textile’ which was moderated by Dr Vivek Nanoti, Director-Engineering, LTJSS, Nagpur. The panelists were Goraksh Gadilkar (IAS), Commissioner, Textiles, Sameer Khan, Fabricrafts, Vineet Mohota, Gimatex, Naveen Randar, Bhagirathi Textiles and Vydesh Ram Kumar, Director, Innovative Textiles Ltd. Tanveer Mirza, National Chair, Global Nagpur Summit and Amitabh Khanna, Managing Partner of Ideal Techno Solutions were also present. Dr Vivek Nanoti proposed the vote of thanks.
