Food Security Department officials conduct surprise inspection of Satpula Haat Bazaar

The District Food Security Administration Department conducted surprise inspection in Satpula Haat Bazaar, Yadav Colony and many areas of the city apart from Panagar. The team comprising senior officials of the department inspected shops selling food items and filed cases against more than half a dozen shopkeepers for operating food business without acquiring valid food license. Likewise, senior official also took action against milk vendors and collected sample of milk from Narang Dairy. Food Security Officer, Pankaj Shrivastava informed that they conducted the inspection following the directions of Collector Saurabh Kumar Suman.
 
The Collector has asked the department to act tough against those involved in sale of adulterated food items. Shrivastava said that under the Food Security and Standards Act of 2006 and the Rules and Regulations of 2011, a fine of up to Rs 1 lakh is imposed for conducting food business without FSSAI registration and a penalty of up to Rs 5 lakhs is levied for conducting food business without an FSSAI license along with a six-month sentence. Additionally, approval from the Jabalpur Municipal Corporation, Municipal Council and local bodies is also required. The Food Security Officer further informed that the special campaign, against those selling meat-fish or engaging in other food businesses without legal licenses and registrations will be conducted continuously till December 31. Those conducted the drive were Sanjay Gupta, Madhuri Mishra, Sarika Dixit, Vinod Dhurve along with police and local authorities.
