Team Maharashtra played to their best potential to claim the Senior inter-state badminton title at Guwahati. Starting against Airport Authority of India, Shruti Mundada overcame Tanya Hemant 23-12, 23-25, 21-18 to put Maharashtra in the lead. In the second singles Maharashtra’s Aalisha Naik beat Mansi Singh in three games with the scoreboard reading 21-18, 21-12 and 21-19. In the third outing (women’s doubles), Maharashtra’s champion pair of Ritika Thaker and Simran Singhi did not take the match even to three games beat Tanya Hemant and Priya Devi to claim the title. Playing with aggression and precision the Nagpur girls beat the AAI pair 21-14, 21-18.
Speaking from Guwahati, Ritika said she is happy with the team’s performance and feels they have found their rhythm. She praised both the singles players for their steller performance. They gave us teh cushion of 2-0 lead which made our task all the more simple,” said Ritika. Ritika and Simran thanked Arun Lakhani, Mangesh Kashikar, Pradeep Raju, Ajay Dayal, MBA, NDBA, Suchitra Academy, Ajay Dayal Badminton Academy and all coaches and players.
