IT’S double delight for Nagpur University as the men’s table tennis team booked spots in All India Universities Games and Khelo India University Games as well. All the four semi-finalists in the West Zone University Table Tennis Tournament make it to the above said tourneys. Nagpur men won their quarter-final in the WZ meet under way in Bhopal to secure the berths. The team is being represented by Aadi Chitnis of Dr Ambedkar College, Kaustubh Udar of Prerna College of Commerce, Jayesh Kulkarni of Dr Ambedkar College, Rajat Toraskar of CP and Berar College and Vaibhav Rane of GH Raisoni College.
The team got a bye in the first round. In the second, Nagpur blanked Mewar University, Rajasthan 3-0. For Nagpur, the next task was Barkatullah University of Bhopal. The Nagpur team continuing their fine form defeated the opponents 3-0 again. The boys did not stop here. In the fourth round, they crushed Manipal University, Jaipur 3-0 in a best of five match contest and booked their berth in the pre-quarterfinals.
Nagpur team faced Nanded in the pre-quarters and won it easily. Without giving any chance to their opponents, Nagpur took the match 3-0 finally making their way to the quarter-finals. The quarter-final against Indore University was a little tough task for the Orange City paddlers who prevailed 3-1. With this quarter-final win the team booked berths for All India University Games and Khelo India University Games to be held in month of January and February respectively.
