Leopard cub dies of pneumonia in Van Vihar

A male leopard cub which was rescued from village Chhota Undwa of Jobat range of Alirajpur general forest division and was kept in the Alirajpur depot premises. In view of the extremely weak condition of the cub, as per the instructions of senior officials, the cub was brought to Van Vihar National Park, Bhopal for the treatment on August 23. The leopard cub was kept in a quarantine enclosure and given proper treatment and care. After completion of the quarantine period, this cub was shifted to leopard housing in healthy condition. This leopard cub died in the intervening night of December 28 and 29.
 
The post-mortem of was done by Dr Atul Gupta, wildlife doctor of Van Vihar National Park and wildlife doctor, Wild Life S.O.S. Dr Rajat Kulkarni. The cause of death of the leopard cub was found to be pneumonia. A sample of the body of the leopard cub has been collected and sent to the School of Wildlife Forensic Health, Jabalpur, for testing.
After post-mortem, the body of the leopard cub was cremated in Van Vihar National Park in the presence of officials and employees of Van Vihar.
