Tomar, Prahlad Patel, other BJP MPs resign from Lok Sabha

 

 

 

Following the electoral win in the State, Members of Parliament (MPs) who have contested Assembly elections from on BJP ticket have submitted their resignations to the Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Wednesday, State BJP Media-incharge, Ashish Agrawal confirmed this talking to ‘The Hitavada’. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MPs including two Union ministers who won the Assembly elections have resigned. Agrawal said that MPs who have resigned are Narendra Singh Tomar, Prahlad Patel, Rakesh Singh, Uday Pratap Singh, and Riti Pathak.

 

The MPs submitted their resignations after meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP President J P Nadda in New Delhi. The party president accompanied them to the Speaker’s office where MPs submitted their resignations. Narendra Singh Tomar holds the Agriculture portfolio while Prahlad Patel is the Minister of State for Food Processing and Jal Shakti. Faggan Singh Kulaste, Minister of State for Steel and Rural Development, the fourth minister to have been fielded by the BJP in the state elections, could not win his Assembly seat. Former Union agriculture minister Narendra Singh Tomar was up against BSP’s Balveer Singh Dandotiya and Indian National Congress’ (INC’s) Ravindra Singh Tomar from Dimni. There is speculation about a possible rejig in the Union Council of Ministers. The last major rejig in the Union Council happened in July 2021 when 43 ministers, including 36 new faces, were inducted.

 

Prahlad Patel won Assembly elections from Narsingpur constituency, said on phone “After meeting BJP President JP Nadda, I have resigned as Lok Sabha MP. Soon, I will also resign from the Cabinet.” The BJP is set to form the Government in the State as the party won with two-third majority. Name of some of these members are among the front-runners for the post of Chief Minister. The Assembly elections in these states were billed as the semi-final ahead of next year’s Lok Sabha polls. The party has started preparations for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections too, so the political experts ruled out the possibility of any by-election from these Lok Sabha seats.
