Complying with the statement made during the Assembly elections, Congress MLA Phool Singh Baraiya got his face blackened by veteran Congress leader Digvijaya Singh outside the Raj Bhavan in Bhopal. However, the Congress MLA continues to make allegations that the BJP would not get enough votes to win 50 seats if the ECI had conducted ‘fair’ polls even today. Phool Singh Baraiya, who had pledged to blacken his face if the BJP won more than 50 seats in the Assembly polls, said that he would keep his word after his party’s defeat. Now, the BJP bagged 163 seats in 230-member Assembly. Standing by his words that if the Election Commission of India (ECI) conducts fair polls today, then Congress MLA reiterated that the BJP would not get enough votes to win 50 seats, alleging the party of looting the Congress in the state through the help of EVMs (electronic voting machine). He also claimed that his party won 119 seats based on the postal ballot count.

Talking to ‘The Hitavada’, State BJP spokesperson said “By blackening his face, Phool Singh Baraiya has given a message that there is negative sentiment against Kamal Nath ji’s leadership in the entire country. Influenced by the conspiracy of Digvijay Singh, Phool Singh Baraiya exposed the incompetence of his leadership at the national forum by blackening his face on the crushing defeat of Congress. Till now, only leaders like Digvijay Singh and Arun Yadav were busy in managing Kamal Nath ji, now Phool Singh Baraiya has entered that group with a bang. BJP raises issue of Dalit leader: Senior BJP leader Govind Malu told ‘The Hitavada’ that Digvijay Singh should have blackened the face of Kamal Nath but instead he has inked the face of a Dalit leader. Congress leader Sajjain Verma talking to ‘The Hitavada’ has said “why BJP could not announce Chief Minister even after passing of three days. The party used to take on Congress when Congress took time to declare the name. Now, it is their turn and their leaders are silent.

In a symbolic manner, Member of Parliament Digvijaya Singh applied small patches of black ink on Bariya’s face amid hundreds of Congress workers outside the Raj Bhawan. Talking to the media, Baraiya said “They have conspired to win the elections. I had to travel a lot for campaigning. I met people belonging to different castes and constituencies, but nowhere I had felt the public inclination towards the BJP. Phool Singh Baraiya won from Bhander seat with 82,043 votes against BJP’s Ghanshyam Pironiya. About Bhander seat: This Congress leader has defeated BJP candidate Ghanshyam Pirauniya. Raksha Santram Sironia had won from here in the 2018 elections on Congress ticket. After this, Raksha Sironia left Congress along with Jyotiraditya Scindia and joined BJP.
