WCR calls tender to sell generic medicines at railway stations

Under Pradhan Mantri Bharatiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP) Scheme, Railways is all set to start selling generic low cost medicines in its existing multipurpose stalls at all stations. These stalls aims to make availability of quality medicines to poor at an affordable price. Department of Pharma will tie up with Railways to supply generic medicines to shops at railway stations. There are around 2,000 Janaushadhi Kendra already working across the country mostly in Government hospitals. Bhopal Railway Division has proposed to start medicine outlets at railway stations for providing cheaper and essential medicines to the passengers Last week, Bhopal railway conducted pre-bid meeting where traders involved in pharma business were present to know the detail. The meeting was presided over by Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Saurabh Kataria.
 
Assistant Commercial Manager Naval Agrawal informed about the auction process, railway vision, and auction process for the centre, profit and extension in future. He also informed about e-auction module, its process and cleared the doubt of traders. Inspector from commercial department of Railway was also present in the meeting. In this meeting, officials informed that Government procured generic medicines are around 50% cheaper compared to the branded medicines.
 
On Friday, Railways informed that tender has been released to start the medicine outlet at Madan Mahal Railway Station, Bina Station and Sawai Madhopur Station under Jabalpur Division of West Central Railway. It may be mentioned that as per Railway Board’s policy, sales of generic medicine is being started at all stations across country for facility of passengers. Under this project, Bhopal Railway has decided to set up the first generic medicine shop at Bhopal and Bina railway stations. The shop will begin from booking office in circulating area. Railway will be releasing tender for this shop for three years through e-auction module (lease). Railways will be giving the generic medicine stall on lease of three years.
