The Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) doesn’t consider Bhanpur Khanti as a landfill site. The civic body has proposed three major projects here including PM Awas Yojana, Inter State Bus Stand (ISBT) and Commercial Complex.

BMC Commissioner KVS Chowdhary Kolsani says that the landfill site is considered as a place where a pit is dug seven meters deep and the waste is dumped in it. There is no such situation in Bhanpur. Here the garbage was present on the ground only which was finished through scientific closure. Soil and water quality tests were done in the last two years. There is no problem.

The commissioner further said that the commercial complex that will be built here would be like other complexes from where anyone can do shopping. No space is reserved for shifting to a particular market. By paying for the shop, a person will get the shop. The Central Pollution Control Board has set guidelines for construction around the landfill site. Under this, no construction of any kind can be done for fifteen years up to a distance of 500 meters from the landfill site.
