Aspirants have started filing nominations for the Senate polls for Graduate category which are scheduled on March 19, The last date of filing papers is February 25. The Graduate category has 10 seats under Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU). As per the Maharashtra Public Universities Act, 2016, all members are the elected ones. Of the 10 seats, five are in Open category while the bifurcation of remaining five is SC, ST, OBC, VJNT and Woman.
According to sources, the polls will witness a tough battle as the number of candidates filing nominations is likely to go up to 125.
The battle is considered as a bit tough for all as more groups and more people are willing to contest. Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) with Vishnu Changde and other nine members are contesting polls. In last polls, the group won six seats. This time, it has made marginal changes in its candidates who were in the fray in 2017 polls.
Adv Manmohan Bajpayee-led Vidyarthi Sangram Parishad will have support of Secular led by Adv Abhijeet Wanjari and Dr Taywade led Young Teachers Association.
Shikshak Bharati, which has been contesting Teachers constituency elections for long, is be making maiden attempt in Graduate category. Atul Khobragade’s Yuva Graduate Forum, Shiv Sena (Yuva Sena), Nitesh Karade’s organisation from Wardha, Parivartan Panel are the groups will be fielding candidates officially. The polling will be conducted at 94 centres on March 19. The procedure of counting will begin on March 21 rom 10 am at RTMNU’s Jamnalal Bajaj Bhavan administrative building. Total 60,376 are eligible to vote for Graduates category (Senate) polls.
