Recognising the contribution of Mahadevalal Shroff, who established pharmacy education in India, Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) has decided to celebrate March 6 as National Pharmacy Education Day. From this year onwards, the day would be celebrated. To mark the occasion, PCI would be opening job portal and target-oriented research.
There are students who, after doing Diploma in Pharmacy, do not get jobs. Since they lack finance, they can’t open their own shops. Now PCI has taken decision to start job portal through which these students can avail jobs.
“There are several students who come from poor background, mostly from rural parts. They don’t get proper guidance regarding their career. This job portal will help them in searching jobs, plus the companies who are in search of proper candidates, will have readymade data of job-seekers on this website,” informed PCI President Dr Montu Patel to ‘The Hitavada’. PCI will be sending letters to the colleges under it to let students know about the job portal. It will also give intimation to the companies who need such types of qualified candidates.
One more aspect PCI would be focusing on is research. Usually, people get involved in research for the sake of raising their qualification only, for which they choose subjects convenient to them. But, PCI has come up with a new idea, under which, they stress on outcome-based research through which institutes would establish a strong link with industries. “We will be seeking the involvement of various pharma companies in selecting the subjects of research. Our faculty and students would have interaction with industry people. Industry people will suggest them some subjects, which will be productive commercially. They will help faculty and students in conducting research. This type of research will help society too in a big way,” explained Dr Patel. Dr Patel was in city for a programme held at Adarsh Institute of Pharmacy, where he shared dais with Sarsanghchalak of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh Dr Mohan Bhagwat.
