SKIPPER Yash Kadam missed hundred by a shot as Vidarbha and Railways shared Day 1 honours in their Col CK Nayudu Trophy (U-25) quarter-final that began at RSPB Railway Cricket Ground, Rajkot on Sunday.
Vidarbha, who won the toss elected to bat, were 269-7 in 89.5 overs having lost all-rounder Harsh Dubey on penultimate ball of the day for a four-ball duck. Mandar Mahalle, the only recognised batsman left, was not out on a patient 26 that came off 66 balls. The batsman hit one four. Though Vidarbha lost in-form batter Aman Mokhade (1; 11b) cheaply, many batsmen had good starts and they also had little partnerships going but Railways bowlers struck at regular intervals to check the progress.
Opener Satyam Bhoyar (47; 75b, 7x4, 1x6) and Yash Rathod (58; 124b, 4x4) looked in complete control as they put on 65 for the second wicket. After Bhoyar’s loss, Vidarbha lost yet another in-form batter in Danish Malewar, who could contribute just 17 (43b, 2x4). In came Kadam and when he and Rathod were going strong, the latter got out. Kadam was his usual self and did not get bogged down. He struck ten boundaries and three sixes in his 175-ball 96.
Along with stumper Aniket Pande (21; 43b, 4x4), Kadam added 59 runs. Later Kadam and Mahalle stitched an important 62-run partnership. For the hosts, Sahab Yuvraj Singh (11.5-0-43-2) and Harsh Tyagi (18-4-42-2) took two wickets each while the trio of Adarsh Singh, Ashutosh Sharma and Ayan Chaudhari chipped in with a wicket apiece.
Brief scores: Vid 269-7 in 89.5 overs (Y Kadam 96, Y Rathod 58, S Bhoyar 47; SY Singh 2-43, Harsh Tyagi 2-42) vs Railways.
