The Mata Mandir office and zonal offices of Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) would remain without regular power supply as the power distribution company has disconnected electricity supply to these office owing to non-payment of power dues. Due to this the lift of civic body office has also stopped.
The company has taken this action for not depositing the electricity bill. Due to this, the lights in the office located at Mata Mandir remained switched off for two days. Here the officers and employees are working in the dark. People’s representatives are also facing problems. Apart from this, lights have also gone off in Zone-2 and its ward offices. For two days there is no electricity in these four offices and also in the computer branch located at Annapurna Bhavan. Work also came to a standstill due to a power failure.
The matter of non-payment of dues between the municipal corporation and the electricity company often comes to the fore. The company many a times disconnects the connection of street lights of the corporation.
Last year, from October 29, the company had disconnected the connections of street lights for 12 consecutive days. Due to this, the lights of most areas of the city were turned off. These included many major roads, over which lakhs of people pass everyday. In-charge minister Bhupendra Singh had to come forward on this issue.
He called a meeting of the and got the connections connected. BMC Chairman Kishan Suryavanshi has expressed displeasure over this action and said that this behaviour of the power company is not right. Due to non-availability of electricity, the work of common people is also stuck. He told that the municipal corporation owes the amount to the electricity company. The corporation deposits the amount in instalments. Despite this, the company disconnected the connection. This behaviour is not right. Corporation office is the center of public convenience. The corporation also has to recover the dues from the company, but the corporation never installed the locks. If the attitude remains the same, we will also act strictly.
