City Police officials have made special traffic arrangements to avoid traffic jams during the India vs Australia Test cricket match from Thursday to Monday. A bandobast of 2,000 police personnel has also been planned at VCA’s Jamtha Stadium, police officials said.
Commissioner of Police (CP) Amitesh Kumar chaired several meetings of top rank police officials for discussing point to point security and traffic arrangements for the cricket match. Movement of heavy vehicles will be prohibited during the cricket match. The heavy vehicles coming from Hyderabad or Wardha road will be stopped at Dongargaon toll plaza, while vehicular movement from Kamptee, Bhandara Outer Ring Road will be stalled at Panjari Toll plaza. The vehicles heading towards Wardha road from Amravati road will be stopped at National Cancer Institute (NCI) turning.
The match will be held from Thursday to Monday and both cricket teams have already arrived in the city. Players of the teams are staying at the Radisson Blu and Le Meridien hotels. Concerned police officials have been directed to intensify police presence at both hotels, the official said.
Quick Response Team (QRT) personnel will be deployed on the route from the hotels to VCA’s Jamtha Stadium for the security of the players. Police personnel will be deployed among the viewers in plain clothes to ensure that no untoward incident takes place in the stadium. A total of 254 CCTV cameras have been installed to monitor every movement in the Jamtha area. It also includes four mobile surveillance vehicles.
The official said that, a whopping 2,000 police personnel, including eight Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs), 10 Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs), 35 Police Inspectors, 138 Assistant Inspectors of Police (APIs) and Police Sub-Inspectors (PSIs) will be deployed in the stadium during the match. More than 40 metal detectors and door frame monitors would be installed at all entry points as security measures.
Nagpur Metro services
Nagpur Metro is all set to encash the opportunity presented by the test match between India and Australia at VCA Stadium, Jamtha, from February 9 by operating its services from 6 am to 10 pm. Cricket enthusiasts can travel up to New Airport Metro or Khapri Metro Station from all Metro stations, including the terminal stations, Lokmanya Nagar, Automotive Square and Prajapati Nagar. VCA Jamtha Stadium is 7 and 6 km away respectively from New Airport and Khapri Metro Stations respectively. E-rickshaws will be available at New Airport and Khapri Metro Station on payment basis for travelling upto Jamtha Stadium and back. Metro trains ply with a frequency of 15 minutes throughout the day, except between 3 pm and 7 pm, when the trains will operate every 12 minutes to facilitate faster transportation services for cricket lovers, after the play for the day is over.
