Justice Bhushan Gavai, Judge of Supreme Court of India, opined that the Executive and Judiciary working in tandem would bring a sea change in the society. Explaining the statement, Justice Gavai recalled the hearing of suo motu public interest litigation regarding construction of Jabalpur highway when he was serving as judge of Nagpur Bench of Bombay High Court. “The pending road construction work was expedited and completed with wildlife mitigation measures, including 1.5 km long underpass only after the High Court’s intervention,” he informed and underlined that executive and judiciary could bring a sea change by working together. Justice Gavai was speaking at the inauguration ceremony of newly-constructed annex building of the District and Sessions Court in the Nyay Mandir premises, on Sunday. Union Minister for Road Transport Nitin Gadkari, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Acting Chief Justice of Bombay High Court Sanjay Gangapurwala, Justices of Bombay High Court Sunil Shukre, A S Chandurkar, Valmiki Menezes, Principal District Judge (PDJ) S B Agrawal, retired Supreme Court Judge Justice V S Sirpurkar, DBA President Adv Roshan Bagde were present on the dais.
 
Justice Gavai further said that, the purpose of judiciary, law and executives is to give justice to the common citizens. “Everyone should get justice in time and at minimum cost,” he opined. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari stated in his address that the new building is a matter of pride for the people of Nagpur and this will speed up the process of justice. He also hoped that the use of modern technology will make the judiciary more effective and citizens will get instant justice. He also opined that being a largest democracy in the world, justice has gained great importance in India. Fadnavis claimed that necessary infrastructure would be created for the courts and funds will be allocated on priority to ensure justice to the common people on time. The nine-storey new annex building was constructed at a cost of Rs 160 crore, he said, adding that, it would help the courts to increase their efficiency.
 
He also informed that the State Government has sanctioned construction of 40 new courts and residential buildings. “Facilities and well-equipped buildings are required to speed up the process of justice. Efforts will also be made at the Government level to reduce the number of cases in the court,” the DyCM said. Justice Sanjay Gangapurwala, Justice Sunil Shukre, Justice A S Chandurkar also addressed the gathering on the occasion. PDJ S B Agrawal delivered an introductory speech while DBA President Adv Roshan Bagde proposed a vote of thanks.
