RTMNU’s synthetic track work in final stages

IN APPROXIMATELY two months’ time, city athletes will be able to sprint on the new synthetic track at Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) Sports Complex, Ravi Nagar. Bhoomipujan of the work (spreading rubber solution on the track) was held on Tuesday at the hands of Vice-Chancellor Dr Subhash Chaudhari.
The work of last layer will commence from Wednesday. Engineers appointed by World Athletics have already started their work and are expected to complete it in next 30 days. Malaysian Chiang mun Chun, Beh hooi Poo and Low yan Harng were busy marking the areas near the long jump, triple jump pits.
“The Poly Urithin rubber solution will be spread all over the track which will be completed in 20-22 days. Then around 10-12 days will be required for marking of lanes,” informed Dr Dhananjay Welukar, former Director, Department of Physical Education and Sports. The entire process of having a athletics synthetic track was started during Dr Welukar’s tenure. Even after retirement, Dr Welukar is assisting in best possible way.
The synthetic track is being constructed as per the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) or World Athletics’ norms. It will have eight lanes along with steeple chase, jumping pits for long and triple jumps.

The bhoomipujan was also attended by Dr Babanrao Taywade, Dr Sanjay Chaudhari, Dr Sanjay Dudhe, Arjuna awadee Vijay Munishwar, Gurudeo Nagrale and others.
