Although seasoned Congress leader Digvijay Singh has ducked the question about who will be Congress’ Prime Ministerial candidate for Lok Sabha elections 2024, he ascertained that in Madhya Pradesh his party will touch majority mark and form the next Government. He has also brushed aside the rumours about change of leadership and candidate for Chief Minister’s post in upcoming elections.
“The Assembly elections will be contested under Pradesh Congress Committee chief Kamal Nath’s leadership and he will be Chief Minister’s face in this battle. The party will won on 116 seats in upcoming assembly elections”, he claimed. “After shouldering new responsibility of Vindhya and Madhya regions’ seats, this senior leader has intensified his visits to the seats where the party had dismal performance in last elections. Party insiders shared with ‘The Hitavada’ that around 66 seats have been listed as weaker one. In these constituencies the party could not win the last five elections. It can be termed as the BJP stronghold. The Political Affairs Committee has shouldered the responsibilities of challenging seats to Kamal Nath and Digvijay Singh.
In this series, Digvijay Singh will visit Bina this month. He has visited Khurai, Rehali and Surakhi. In view of his political acumen, he has been asked to settle discontentment among workers and leaders. Who have been either sidelined or have become dormant since a few years. At many places partymen are levelling allegations that some of the workers have become victims from influential people belonging to the ruling party by misusing administration and police force. Digvijay Singh will interact with such workers and will try to infuse confidence in them. This senior leader will try to overcome their phobia, if any. In house turf war is still prevailing in the party. Whether it is Nimar or Vindhya, politics of sabotage were visible during the last Assembly and urban body elections. For the Malwa region, Kamal Nath is making efforts and has been scheduled to make frequent visits. Indore is also known as the saffron bastion. In the 2018 elections, there was a tough fight with the Bharatiya Janata Party. Congress had won the elections with a razor thin victory margin. It could only form a government with the support of Independent candidates. It is being said that although the Government was led by Kamal Nath in 2018-19, but Digvijay Singh had played a major role in organisation. On other hand, repeated episodes of Jyotiradiya Scindia’s disappointment with the organisation and party remained unheard. At last, the latter had switched to saffron camp. Digvijay Singh becomes successful to get assigned important portfolios of urban administration and housing ministry to his son Jaivardhan Singh. This time too, There can’t be denial from the possibility that if a Congress government is formed, then this new leader will have to play a bigger role, a political analyst told ‘The Hitavada’.
