AFTER successfully conducting MLA Chashak All India Open FIDE Rating Chess (Below 1600) Tournament in February, Jai Sai Welfare Foundation is back with another competition. Come April 22, the foundation will be conducting the All India Open Below 1600 FIDE Rating Chess Tournament. Addressing a press conference, Sushant Jumde, Secretary of the foundation said that the three-day tournament will be played at 7 Vachchan Hall, Wardhaman Nagar. The last round and prize distribution function will be held on April 24 at 4.30 pm. The tournament is recognised by World Chess Federation (FIDE), All India Chess Federation (AICF) Maharashtra Chess Association (MCA) and Chess Association Nagpur (CAN).
“The tournament carries a total prize money of Rs 4 lakh. The winner of the tournament will be richer by Rs 50,000 while the runners-up will get Rs 35,000 and the third place finisher Rs 25,000. All the three players will also get glittering trophies,” said Jumde. The entry fee is Rs 2,000 per participant. “The tournament will be inaugurated by former mayor of Nagpur Dayashankar Tiwari. Deputy Commissioner of Police Archit Chandak, who is also a former chess player, MLA Krishna Khopde will also grace the inaugural function at 10 am,” added Jumde. The organisers are expecting around 500 participants for the tournament. “Till date we have received entries of around 250 players from Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh. We have extended the last date of entry to April 15,” informed Jumde. Total nine rounds will be played. “Daily three rounds will be played with a time control of 30 minutes plus 30 second increment,” said Chief Arbiter Swapnil Bansod. Top five finishers in U-7, U-9, U-11, U-13, U-15 in both boys and girls categories will be rewarded with trophies. “There are 57 cash prizes and 109 trophies for U-7, U-9, U-11, U-13, U-15 age categories,” he added. Cash prizes to top four in best veteran, best unrated, best female, best player from Nagpur, will also be given.
More details can be obtained from Amit Tembhurne. A dedicated team led by Jumde and Sarang Jawdekar (Treasurer) has been formed for smooth conduct of the tournament. The other members include Ritu Jumde, (Vice-President), Nilesh Channawaar, Tournament Organising Committee member. A recognised team of Arbiters headed by Chief Arbiter Bansod (IA) and Deputy Chief Arbiter (IA) Deepak Chavhan will conduct and monitor the tournament.
