Amarendu Prakash, the Director In-charge of Bokaro Steel Plant, has been recommended for the post of Chairman of Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) by the Public Enterprise Selection Board (PESB). A total of nine applicants were shortlisted and interviewed, including Anirban Dasgupta, Director In-charge of Bhilai Steel Plant and others such as Vejendla Srinivasa Chakravathy, Director Commercial of SAIL, and Ashok Kumar Verma, Higher Administrative Grade of Indian Railways Stores Service.
Amarendu Prakash, who assumed the position of Director In-charge of Bokaro Steel Plant on September 28, 2020, is an experienced technocrat with over 30 years of experience. He has worked for 26 years in Bokaro Steel Plant and four years at SAIL Corporate office. Prakash began his career jointing services in the Hot Strip Mill of Bokaro Steel Plant and has extensive knowledge of steel rolling and finishing.
During his tenure as Director In-charge of Bokaro Steel Plant, he led several new initiatives in the township and achieved new highs in each field. Bokaro Steel Plant was also credited as the first Global Active Partner City under his leadership. Prakash also had additional charge of Director In-charge of Rourkela Steel Plant, Durgapur and Burnpur Steel Plants during 2021- 22 for a while. If appointed as the Chairman of SAIL, Amarendu Prakash’s vast experience and leadership qualities are expected to bring a positive impact to the company
