On the occasion of the 132nd birth anniversary of Dr B R Ambedkar, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel garlanded the statue of Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar, architect of the Indian Constitution at Ambedkar Chowk. The event was organised by Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar Sarvajanik Jayanti Samaroh Samiti, Raipur. During his address, the Chief Minister spoke about the significance of Babasaheb Ambedkar’s contribution to the country and how he fought for the downtrodden society to get their rights. He inspired the people of the backward classes to struggle by being educated and organised. Baghel said that Babasaheb realised that the biggest weakness of Indian society is education. He referred to Indian philosophy and said that India considers the whole world as a family. Baghel added that although India is ideologically very high, our behaviour is not like that, and human beings are discriminated against in our society, and equality is not practiced. He further stated that many great men of the country, including Babasaheb, realised this evil of Indian society and fought against it.
Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar fought for the rights of the downtrodden, the oppressed, by becoming their voice. Baghel said that legends like Babasaheb are born once in centuries. Dr B R Ambedkar gave us the mantra to ‘be educated, be organised and struggle.’ His thoughts inspire us to struggle and move forward. He imbibed Lord Buddha’s message of wisdom, compassion, and friendship, which society needs today the most. The constitution given by Babasaheb gives us an opportunity for social, economic, and political equality, which is our fundamental right. Dr Ambedkar had tried to bring changes in society by introducing reservation. He had accepted Buddhism in the presence of thousands of people in Nagpur. Baghel also stated that his government has simplified the process of making a caste certificate.
Chhattisgarh is the first State in the country where if the parents have a caste certificate, then the newborn child is given its caste certificate. If someone does not have a record of 50 years, arrangements have been made to make a caste certificate after the resolution is passed by the Gram Sabha or the General Assembly in urban areas. The Buddhist Society of India demanded land in Naya Raipur, and the Chief Minister stated that land is being allotted to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Other Backward Classes on giving 10 per cent of the cost of the land and 15 percent to other classes. He said that if the society wants to take government land, then mark the land, and the land will be allotted as per the prescribed procedure. The Chief Minister also made a scathing attack on the BJP government at the Centre, stating that constitutional institutions are being weakened in the country and the Indian constitution is in danger.
Baghel accused the Central Government of continuously weakening all constitutional institutions and not allowing reservation to be implemented in State, even after passing the reservation bills in the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly. He also spoke about how bungalows are vacated when questions are asked, and the job of the Opposition and journalists is to ask questions, but they cannot ask questions in the current scenario.
