Cheetah ‘Oban’ who sneaked out of Kuno National Park on April 15 has now entered the Madhav National Park, Shivpuri, on Tuesday morning. Forest team of both the national parks are put on alert mode to secure the cat. After travelling throughout night on April 15 and 16, Oban reached border area of Shivpuri.
The cheetah was sighted in Bard Jorai village on Sunday morning. On Monday, he travelled 20 km and reached Madhav National Park on Tuesday morning. Forest Department has asked officials of Madhav National Park to assign a team to watch the cheetah. Officials informed that on Tuesday evening, cheetah was sighted taking rest in Tuna-Bharka area. Team has been assigned to ensure safety of the cat.
Radio collar installed in the cheetah’s neck is helping to track the location. Locals of the area are scared of cheetah presence. Earlier on April 1, Oban strayed out of Kuno and reached Barad region. On April 6, forest team tranquillised the cat and released him back to Kuno wild. DFO Prakash Verma said that the cheetah would come back in Kuno after a few days. He said that effort is being made to drive off the cat. He said that frequent tranquillisation would bring cat in stress and this is harmful for his health. He said cheetah do not attack human being. If there would be any kind of risk of man-animal conflict, field staff will decide to tranquillise the cat. Experts said that Oban is moving towards fields and water sources. They said that instead of dense forest, Oban prefer to stay around water sources and fields. During day, he often being sighted under shade of tree or water sources. He preferred to stay around cold environment. Team has noticed that Oban spends time around field full of water and some cold area.
