Authorities warn against spreading false info on social media

The rampant spread of misinformation on social media has become a growing concern. In a recent incident, a false document attributed to the Under Secretary of the Home Department has gone viral on social media, prompting authorities to take action. The document in question contains malicious information and is completely false. It has been found to be in violation of Sections 419 and 469 of the Indian Penal Code, which provide for punishment for cheating by personating and forgery, respectively. According to Section 419, anyone who cheats by personating can face imprisonment of up to three years, or a fine, or both. Similarly, section 469 provides for imprisonment of up to three years and a fine for those who commit forgery with the intent to harm the reputation of a party.
The unknown person who attempted to tarnish the image of the Chhattisgarh Government and Home Department by spreading the forged document has been charged under these sections. The police have registered a case against the accused at the Rakhi Police Station. In response to this incident, the Senior Superintendent of Police in Raipur has urged the public to be cautious of misleading and malicious messages on social media.
The police have also warned of strict action against those who intentionally spread false information. It is crucial for individuals to verify the accuracy of information before sharing it on social media. The spread of false information can have serious consequences and can harm the reputation of individuals and organisations.
