The public sector general insurance (PSGI) employees conducted lunch hour demonstrations all over India on April 17, 2023. The call for the demonstration was given by apex body of PSGI companies the Joint Forum of Trade Unions and Associations (JFTU). All the four PSGI companies decided to roll out KPI and Restructuring from April 17 on pan India basis. At Nagpur the lunch hour demonstrations were held in front of Regional Office of United India Insurance Company Limited, situated at Shankar Nagar. To register their protest the employees shouted slogans against Department of Financial Services (DFS) and General Insurers Public Sector Association of India (GIPSA). A gate meeting was also organised after the demonstration. Pravin Dongre of All India SC/ST Employees Welfare Association, Shailesh Bhure of GIBCEWA and Prashant Dixit, General Secretary of General Insurance Employees’ Union, Western Zone, addressed the meeting. The speakers criticised DFS and GIPSA member companies for implementation of KPI and Restructuring unilaterally and in hazed manner. They informed that instead of interaction session on the issues the management wants to hold information session with the unions/associations.
Speakers also appealed the PSGI employees to prepare for long struggle against the anti public sector and anti employees policy of the Government. The meeting was conducted by Sourabh Tatekar. After the meeting a joint memorandum addressed to the Chairperson GIPSA was submitted through the Deputy General Manager of United India Insurance Company Limted. Employees from the PSGI offices of the city participated in the demonstrations. For the success of demonstrations Vinay Karpe, Anant Borekar, Deepak Gotmare, Sumit Tiwari, Swapnil Kohle, Homraj Adey, Rohit Shivhare, Chandu Sawarkar and Sunil Tambe have taken efforts.
