The city is now-a-days facing a serious problem of illegal posters and banners being erected on road dividers, which are posing a threat of road accidents. Despite being aware of the issue, Jabalpur Municipal Corporation (JMC) has remained silent and is neglecting its responsibility to deal strictly with those who ruining the beauty of public properties and playing with the life of citizens.
The unconcerned attitude of the civic body is giving political parties and other organizations a free hand to tarnish the beauty of the city by putting up giant banners and posters on rotary of main squares, road dividers and electricity polls. These illegal posters and banners are not only creating inconvenience to the citizens but also causing road accidents.
Moreover, the unauthorized posters, banners and flexes are mushrooming all over the important squares and main roads. The JMC’s negligence is also exposing its lack of sincerity and sensitivity towards Swachh Survekshan 2023 . Despite claiming that it often carries out drives against illegal posters and banners concerned the JMC is failing to rid the city of such illegal materials.
The civic body has the right to lodge FIR against individuals or organizations and take strict action under the Disfigurement of Government Property Act if they deface public property. But, the civic body is still not acting tough against those who ruin the beauty of squares and other public properties and playing with the life of common man.
It is the high time the JMC must take immediate action to rid the city of unauthorized posters, banners. The beauty of the city must be preserved and citizens’ convenience and safety should not be compromised. The political leaders and other organizations also need to be aware of their responsibility towards citizens and public property and refrain from putting their life in danger.
